Comcast impacts the economy in the two Illinois counties

Comcast announced today that its network is approaching 400 miles in length in Lee and Whiteside Counties and reaches literally thousands of area homes and businesses.  Comcast also announced today that its Xfinity WiFi network has surpassed 3,000 hotspots in locations across the two counties – with about 1 million in the state of Illinois and more than 15 million in locations nationwide.

“Having such an extensive network allows us to provide state-of-the-art services to homes and businesses across Dixon, Rock Falls and other locations in Lee and Whiteside Counties.  That includes fiber that can provide businesses Internet speeds up to 100 Gbps and a new service that delivers speeds up to 1 Gbps Internet over our existing lines to all serviceable residential and business addresses in Dixon and Rock Falls – making ultrafast Internet across town a reality today,” said John Crowley, Comcast’s regional senior vice president.  “The depth and breadth of our network also allows us to provide the most extensive WiFi coverage in the area.”

Xfinity WiFi makes it possible for Xfinity TV customers access the Internet and watch live TV and On Demand content on their mobile phones, tablets and laptops when their out and about, Crowley added.  In fact, Comcast recently announced the launch of the Xfinity Stream app, which allows customers to watch up to 200 channels live when they’re out and about, along with up to about 40,000 hours of On Demand movies and TV shows.

In addition to providing state-of-the-art services, Comcast plays a major role in the two counties’ economies.  The company remits several thousand dollars in franchise fees each year to local municipalities and has nearly 20 employees in a tech facility in Rock Falls.  In addition, Comcast is an active supporter and sponsor of Dixon Main Street and a member of the Rock Falls Chamber of Commerce.
