Visitors to get hands-on demos of XFINITY’s innovative TV, High-Speed Internet and Voice services, as well as XFINITY Home, Comcast’s home security and automation platform
Comcast today announced that it plans to open an XFINITY Store in Forsyth, IL, near Decatur. To be located at 108 East Barnett Ave., the new 4,300-square-foot space will be designed to give customers the best possible experience, including real life, hands-on demonstrations of XFINITY’s range of products and services, from cable TV, high-speed Internet and home phone services, to the company’s home security and home automation platform, XFINITY Home. The store also will feature iPads and other mobile devices visitors can use to explore XFINITY’s Android and iOS apps. Apps range from XFINITY Stream, which allows customers to watch live TV anywhere at home over WiFi; watch up to 200 live channels outside their homes; stream up to 40,000 hours of On Demand content; and download movies and TV shows, to XFINITY WiFi, which allows customers to search for locations of the network’s 16 million hotspots across the country.
“The goal of the new store is to give customers the best possible experience,” said John Crowley, Comcast’s Greater Chicago Region senior vice president. “It will give our employees the ability to demonstrate the latest XFINITY products and services and educate visitors about how to use all of their features. In addition, the store will have comfortable seating areas that will allow visitors to settle in and experience our products and services as though they’re in their own living rooms.”
Along with product and service demos, customers will be able to pay bills, pick up and return equipment and get assistance from trained, knowledgeable sales and service consultants.
The XFINITY Store will have around 12 full- and part-time employees. Store hours will be Mondays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 12 to 5 p.m. Comcast representatives anticipate the store will open toward the end of 2017.
“I’m pleased that Comcast chose Forsyth for one of its first Central Illinois stores,” said Andrew Zupkoff, Community & Economic Development Coordinator for the Village of Forsyth. “The location is in a dynamic area with a significant amount of retail traffic and it will serve thousands of our customers in the Decatur area and the surrounding communities.”
The investment in the XFINITY Store follows a major investment last year by Comcast in an expansion of its advanced telecommunications network in Decatur – including the addition of fiber-optic cable. The expansion, which passes several locations, ranging from City Hall and Richland Community College to the Midwest Inland Port, has given businesses and institutions along the route access to Internet speeds of up to 100 Gigabits per second (Gbps), as well as a wide range of services, including Ethernet, Internet, Voice and value-added cloud services.
In addition, last year Comcast announced the launch of Xfinity On Campus at Millikin University. Xfinity On Campus is a service that lets college students watch live TV and On Demand and DVR’d content on their laptops, tablets and smartphones. Millikin is the first university in central Illinois to offer this service.
