Comcast Pledges Continued Support of Military Employees and Military Community

Company also reiterates commitment to hiring 10,000 veterans and military community members

Comcast leaders and area officials gathered at Cantigny Park in Wheaton, IL, today to sign an Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Statement of Support, reaffirming a long-standing company commitment to hire and retain employees who are members of National Guard and Reserve.

Comcast NBCUniversal’s senior vice president of Military and Veteran Affairs, Brigadier General (Ret.) Carol Eggert, and Greater Chicago Region (GCR) senior vice president John Crowley hosted the ceremony, which included a presentation of colors by the DuPage Honor Guard.  DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin; Wheaton Mayor Michael Gresk and several other area mayors; representatives of U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth; Illinois 11th District Congressman Bill Foster; Illinois’ 14th District Congressman Randy Hultgren; and a host of members of Comcast’s GCR VetNet employee support group also were in attendance.

“Comcast NBCUniversal is committed to hiring and supporting the military community,” said Eggert.  “A large part of our commitment stems from the role the military has played in some of our leaders’ lives, including company founder Ralph Roberts, a WWII U.S. Navy veteran, and company vice chairman Neil Smit, a former U.S. Navy SEAL. We are proud to have thousands of military community members working in locations across the company at all levels.”

“We value the leadership and unique skills veterans and military community employees bring to Comcast in the Greater Chicago Region (which spans Illinois, Northwest Indiana and Southwest Michigan),” added Crowley.  “Our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Coastguardsmen defend and protect our nation, and they deserve nothing less than our full commitment and support.”

Comcast also reiterated its commitment to hiring 10,000 veterans, National Guard and Reserve members, and military spouses across the company by the end of 2017 and to providing benefits designed to support them and their families while they’re deployed so that they can serve with confidence.

“On behalf of DuPage County and the state of Illinois, I can’t thank Comcast enough for its unwavering support of the military community,” said Chairman Cronin.  “Beyond hiring, Comcast recognizes how important it is for employers to support military service and training requirements for guard and reserve personnel.”

“Comcast is to be commended for its efforts to hire 10,000 veterans, reservists and spouses of military personnel,” added Mayor Gresk.  “Comcast continues to be a good partner for the City of Wheaton, and this pledge to our service members is another example of Comcast’s commitment to our community.”

Comcast has been recognized consistently for being a top military-friendly employer.  The company was selected in 2016 and 2017 as a finalist for the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the highest recognition given by the Department of Defense to companies for its support of employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.  In addition, the company was recognized by Military Times for the services and support it offers veterans.  Moreover, Military Spouse Magazine recognized Comcast NBCUniversal as the #1 Military Spouse Friendly Employer for 2017.  And Comcast was the first corporate sponsor of Bunker Labs, a national nonprofit organization for military veteran-led startups.  To learn more about Comcast’s support for the military community, visit @ComcastMilitary on Twitter.
