New store to increase Comcast’s footprint on Chicago’s south side
July 22, 2019 – Comcast today announced plans to open an Xfinity Store in Chicago’s Pullman neighborhood at 11702 South Marshfield Ave. The 6,400-square-foot store, which is slated to open later this year, is designed entirely around the needs of customers, providing them with the opportunity to explore, learn about and interact directly with the latest Xfinity services or get help if they need it.
The store will feature comfortable seating areas and contemporary displays designed to give visitors hands-on experience with Xfinity’s range of products and services, from the company’s mobile phone service, Xfinity Mobile, high-speed Internet and cable TV, to its home security and automation platform, Xfinity Home. The store also will feature iPads and other mobile devices visitors can use to explore Xfinity’s mobile apps. Apps range from: Xfinity Stream, which allows customers to watch live TV anywhere at home over WiFi, watch more than 200 live channels outside their homes, stream more than 70,000 On Demand choices on-the-go and download movies and TV shows; and Xfinity WiFi, which allows customers to search for locations of the network’s more than 19 million hotspots across the country and nearly 1.7 million in the region; to xFi, which allows high-speed Internet customers to personalize and control their home WiFi experience.
“The goal of our stores is to give customers an awesome experience,” said John Crowley, Comcast’s Greater Chicago Region senior vice president. “The stores give our employees the ability to demonstrate the latest Xfinity products and services and educate visitors about how to take advantage of all of their features and benefits.”
Along with product and service demos, customers will be able to pay bills, pick up and return equipment and get assistance from trained, knowledgeable technology and service consultants. In addition, there will be a dedicated space within the new store where visitors can learn about Comcast Business’ commercial services and discuss their business technology needs with an expert.
Expanding Comcast’s footprint on Chicago’s south side
The new store, which will have around 15 full- and part-time employees, will be open Mondays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The new store will replace the small customer service center (CSC) located in the nearby Comcast facility at 721 E. 112th St. CSC staff will move to the new Xfinity Store location and be joined by several new employees Comcast plans to recruit from the surrounding area.
“Pullman is a major part Chicago’s history,” added 27th District State Representative Justin Slaughter. “I’m pleased that Comcast is continuing to invest in Pullman and the South Side and that the company provides its full suite of services to neighborhoods across the city.”
Comcast will continue to occupy the 112th St. facility, which houses more than 140 technical operations and warehouse staff. Comcast also operates a 30-employee engineering headend facility and CSC on Chicago’s south side at 5711 S. Western Ave. Comcast also has an Xfinity Store at 1322 E. 53rd St. in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood.
