McCormick Place’s newest venue provides an innovative and technologically advanced addition to campus
From coffee to cocktails, venue available to campus guests and for private events
February 14, 2020 — The Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA), in partnership with Comcast, announced that THE TAP Powered by Xfinity will officially open March 2020 at McCormick Place. The new 6,000-square-foot multifaceted space will provide a tech-forward, lounge-like atmosphere for campus guests to work, dine and socialize. The venue will also be available for business meetings and private events.
THE TAP Powered by Xfinity is conveniently located on the concourse connecting the West Building, Wintrust Arena, Marriott Marquis and the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place. The dynamic new space will be equipped with ultra-fast WiFi, a huge nine-screen media wall, multiple digital displays, and an interactive light sculpture made up of 800 LED bulbs, whose patterns and colors guests will be able to control from their WiFi-connected devices. The space will also feature business-focused spaces, powered by Comcast Business, complete with 75” screens with presentation-sharing capabilities.
“We are thrilled for the opening of THE TAP Powered by Xfinity; it is a real game changer for our visitors and adds another element that makes McCormick Square the campus of choice for events, entertainment and meetings,” said Larita Clark, CEO of MPEA. “As the way people meet continues to evolve, innovative spaces such as THE TAP Powered by Xfinity ensure that McCormick Square remains competitive.”
“THE TAP Powered by Xfinity marries innovative technology with an attractive environment that’s visible to millions of local and international visitors,” said John Crowley, Comcast Greater Chicago Region senior vice president. “We’re honored to partner with MPEA on this exciting new venue and be part of one of the most recognized and popular meeting and convention facilities in the country.”
