Comcast Business helps Chicago Area Building Managers Connect Tenants to High-Tech Fiber Infrastructure

High-tech infrastructure helps properties attract and retain tenants

February 18, 2021Comcast Business today announced that more than 50 commercial, residential and mixed-use properties across the Chicago area have deployed its Multi-Tenant Gateway (MTG) solution. MTGs are a cost-effective solution that allow property managers to quickly deliver high-quality fiber connectivity services to their tenants, as well as efficiently manage their buildings’ advanced Comcast Business services, including Ethernet, Internet, Advanced Voice and value-added cloud solutions.

MTG routers can securely connect multiple tenants using a single fiber infrastructure. Designed to support potentially hundreds of unique connections, MTGs benefit small and midsized businesses as well as large corporate headquarters.

MTGs can be wired into existing buildings, refurbished spaces and new builds. Once an MTG is installed, property managers can deliver fiber services onsite in a matter of weeks rather than months, because there’s no need for outside construction to bring the network to the property. This also reduces start-up costs.

In 2019, Comcast Business was the first internet service provider to connect an advanced network to The Old Post Office in downtown Chicago. The site, which had just completed an $800 million renovation, now has multiple MTGs operating onsite to support tenants.

The Old Post Office

“Comcast Business installed three MTGs at The Old Post Office, which saved us from having to add fiber connections for each new tenant,” said Bryan Oyster, Vice President & General Manager for The Old Post Office.  “With several major companies and brands in our building, it’s essential they have access to advanced business class connectivity services, and the multi-tenant gateways onsite help make that possible.”

Business and entertainment centers in the suburbs are also installing MTGs because they offer property managers a convenient way to monitor tenants’ individual connections and remotely troubleshoot any connectivity issues on the MTG network.

“Our Multi-Tenant Gateway allows us to get new tenants online faster,” said Ken Wikoski, Senior Vice President at Calamos Real Estate with CityGate Centre, a mixed-use campus with corporate and commercial office, hospitality, retail and residential space in west suburban Naperville.  “It also provides us a lot of control – we can decide how to manage the network, easily modify bandwidth as our tenants scale up, and we have the support of Comcast Business whenever we need it.”

“Large corporate spaces need to be just as nimble and primed for expansion as their smaller counterparts, especially as businesses plan their returns to the office later this year,” said Sean McCarthy, Comcast’s Regional Vice President of Business Development and Strategic Initiatives. “We’re proud to partner with developers and property managers to deliver our advanced services to their tenants faster and more effectively.”
