The unique, multicultural business communities in Chicago are vital components that keep the Windy City running. Elevating the purpose-driven stories from diverse voices within its walls and alleyways takes commitment, partnership and trust.

Championing the National Association of Black Journalists

During the 2024 National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Convention in Chicago, Comcast hosted a session titled “Champions of Change: A Fireside Chat on Black Media, Building Trust, and Combatting Misinformation.” Panelists included Joy Reid, national correspondent for MSNBC and host of The ReidOut Podcast, Rachel Scott, senior congressional correspondent for ABC News, Errol Barnett, anchor and national correspondent for CBS News and Leroy Chapman, editor-in-chief of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, who moderated the critical conversation on sharing purpose-driven stories and embodying the spirit of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

Prior to passing the reins over to the distinguished media panel, the session’s opening remarks and welcome were provided by Comcast Central Division’s Senior Vice President of Division Communications, Sophia Marshall.

Following Comcast’s NABJ panel, the organization invited local Chicago and national journalists downtown for a “Champions of Change” dinner reception, recognizing their ongoing contributions to communities across the nation. The gathering celebrated Black and multicultural media members and the important work of diverse storytelling.
