Comcast Expands High-Speed Internet Network in Whiteside County

This expansion follows Comcast’s network investment of $1.4 billion in Illinois over the last three years

(December 5, 2024) – Today, Comcast announced the extension of its powerful and reliable network in Whiteside County. This expansion brings Comcast’s full suite of Xfinity residential services, including Internet speeds faster than a gigabit, to homes in an unserved area south of Route 18 and north of Route 38 along Hickory Hills Road. This project was a collaborative effort under Round 2 of Illinois’s Connect Illinois broadband grant program.

Services Available

Comcast offers the following Xfinity services to residential customers across its footprint in Whiteside County:

  • Xfinity Internet, which offers speeds faster than a gigabit, advanced WiFi gateways, and powerful WiFi Boost Pods that can extend coverage to every corner of customers’ homes.
  • Xfinity Mobile, which carries a variety of new mobile phone models, devices and accessories and offers flexible data plans – Unlimited or By the Gigabyte – that fit customers’ unique needs.
  • Xfinity X1, which offers live TV, sports, music, and streaming apps. can be controlled using Xfinity’s award-winning Voice Remote. Through Xfinity StreamSaver, customers can bundle Peacock, Netflix and Apple TV+ and save money.
  • Xfinity Home, the company’s home security and automation solution.
  • Xumo Stream Box from Xfinity, which offers Xfinity Internet customers a 4K streaming device, at no additional monthly cost. The Xumo Stream Box brings together the best of live TV and streaming into one simple, intuitive experience.

Whiteside County households also have access to the company’s Internet Essentials program, a low-cost Internet service available to eligible low-income households. The program has helped nearly 2.2 million Illinois residents connect to the Internet at home since it launched in 2011.

Additionally, the company offers NOW, a new brand of quality, pre-paid Internet, mobile and streaming TV products that customers can purchase month-to-month. In addition, Comcast has more than 1.8 million WiFi hotspots across Illinois and more than 23 million nationwide.

Overall, Comcast has invested more than $20 billion in the last five years to grow and evolve its expansive fiber-rich network across the company’s service footprint nationwide, including $1.4 billion the company has invested in its network in Illinois over the last three years.  Comcast plans to continue its expansion and bring its network to more under- and unserved communities through private funding and state and local partnerships.
