Comcast Donation to Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County’s Duneland Facility gives Kids access to more State-of-the-Art Technology, Promotes STEM

Club to use $10,000 Comcast Foundation grant to purchase technology for its STEM lab

November 28, 2017 – Indiana District 4 Representative Ed Soliday; Chesterton, IN, Town Manager Bernie Doyle; and Duneland Chamber of Commerce president Maura Durham joined Comcast to announce a $10,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County’s (BGCPOCO) Duneland Club.  The funds will be used to purchase additional technology for the Club’s STEM lab, including a new electronic whiteboard.  The donation is part of a larger effort Comcast is making in locations across the country to support My.Future, an interactive online Boys & Girls Clubs of America platform kids can use to learn, play and socialize, as well as interact with one another – using likes, follows and shares – and showcase their work.

“Our Club organization is thrilled to partner with Comcast to bring technology to kids we serve and help them learn and develop,” said Ryan Smiley, BGCPOCO president.  “Not only does technology help kids learn, it sparks their interest in and an array of topics ranging from science and math to nutrition and exercise.”

“The whiteboards, purchased through Comcast’s funding, are a great addition to our STEM curriculum, because they are really opening a window to different worlds for our members,” Smiley added.  “These boards also will be used for staff development as we connect our Clubs in Lake and Porter counties for distance learning and training opportunities, ensuring that we continually provide top quality programs for kids.”

“Through its wide array of programs and services, BGCPOCO is helping Porter County young people acquire the skills they’ll need to succeed in school and participate in the 21st century workforce,” said Soliday.  “I can’t thank Comcast enough for helping BGCPOCO deliver on its mission and helping to prepare our youth for the future.”

“Comcast is proud to partner with BGCPOCO once again to provide kids and families it serves access to technology that will help them develop the skills they need to succeed in today’s digital world.” said John Crowley, senior vice president of Comcast’s Greater Chicago Region, which includes Northwest Indiana.”
