Comcast brings innovative EveryBlock.com platform to even more Chicago area communities…
Comcast announced today that it has launched EveryBlock in Lisle and Naperville, IL. EveryBlock is an interactive hyperlocal Website that features information about specific geographic areas – from as small as a single block to as large as a zip code or entire suburb, depending on users’ preferences. Designed to let residents know what’s happening in their neighborhoods, EveryBlock users can view and share information, ranging from news feeds from local government entities and schools and messages from businesses and civic groups about local events, to business licenses, restaurant inspections, building permits and crime data. In addition, EveryBlock users can post comments and respond to one another on the site, making it a useful communications tool for communities.
“Comcast relaunched EveryBlock in Chicago in January of 2014, and we’ve seen first-hand how helpful it can be for communities. Since then, we’ve added several communities, including Evanston, Oak Park and River Forest, and usage has grown significantly. We also added functionality to make it an even more robust experience for users,” said Matthew Summy, Comcast’s regional vice president of External Affairs. “We’re proud to be able to bring EveryBlock to Lisle and Naperville.”
“The City of Naperville is already proud to be the home for Comcast’s Executive
Business Center,” said Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico. “Now with the launch of EveryBlock, Naperville residents, businesses, and organizations will be able to communicate with each other in a new and exciting way.”
“The Village of Lisle appreciates Comcast for providing a platform for our residents to discuss local topics and get local information,” said Lisle Mayor Joe Broda. “Civic engagement is really important in Lisle. We’re looking forward to seeing how EveryBlock helps to advance it here.”
Since EveryBlock launched in 2014, Comcast has added functionality and worked to make the site even more robust and useful. For example, in Chicago, Comcast added Open311 information, which includes a listing of 311 requests by location. Comcast also added Android and iOS EveryBlock map apps that show where news, neighborhood talk, crimes, business license applications, 311 service requests and other activities have taken place.
“EveryBlock is an amazing tool and platform that Comcast can continue to expand to meet the needs of the communities we serve,” said Summy. “To this end, Comcast is reaching out to newspapers, businesses, cultural institutions and other entities in the area to educate them about EveryBlock and discuss how they can incorporate their data into the platform.”
On Everyblock.org, Comcast provides a widget builder developers can use to incorporate EveryBlock content on their sites, along with tools they can use to build their own hyperlocal applications.
